I recently read a CNN article on a temporary forest which was installed in the middle of a football stadium in Austria. The goal in mind was to raise awareness on the impacts of climate change and deforestation. The project was completed by a Swiss artist named Klaus Littmann and is comprised of 300 trees. The concept of placing a forest right in the middle of a place where people go to view activities is extremely impactful, and forces people to really take a look at something which they’ve been oblivious or ignorant to.
I love the contrast of coming to a stadium and watching trees grow. The expectation of speed and activity makes you rethink the speed of activity in ‘natural’ environment. The growth of trees could be as interesting as a football game if we had longer attention spans.
