I love reading stories about artists who find their passions and pursue them (even if later than people may think). For Mamadi Doumbouya, he began photographing at 19 and by 22 his photographs have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Port and The Cut. His journey can be said to have begun when his friend in high school told him about an after school program called Salt. The article says that “Watching that young man, Mamadi Doumbouya, photograph is watching someone do what he loves.” I find this to be a great article to highlight the importance of funding in the arts and especially funding the youth’s pursuit of art in any form.
