This article from the New York Times is an essay adapted by Antwaun Sargent from his upcoming book “The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion.” He discusses and links the work of several black artists in a diverse array of mediums who are using their art to break boundaries and change the way that black art has been portrayed in the past. He writes that “What is unfolding is a contemporary rethinking of the possibilities of black representation by artists who illustrate their own desires and control their own images.”
Great article. Why did you pick it? What are your thoughts on it?

I picked this article because I feel like it had a fresh take in terms of portraying black art in a different light. It’s discussion on the versatility and diverse nature of the art is something I haven’t really seen/ read about before.
